This superb (if not slightly controversial) wall mask originally produced by NooroMason in the 1970's and later retailed by the Clarice Cliff Gotham company in London, is indeed a rare find.
Clarice Cliff Gotham purchased all remaining stocks of both “Ecstasy” and “Marla” wall masks from NooroMason's when they ceased trading in the 1980's and by 1998 both models had been sold out and have never been repeated.
While "Ecstasy" and “Marla” do appear occasionally for sale in antique second hand markets they are only very rarely in perfect original condition. However this one is 'new old stock' , has never been previously used and as such is in 100% perfect mint condition. I also have a few “Marla” face masks in mint condition also available for sale but you will need to visit my “seller’s other items” to find their current listing.
This auction is for “Ecstasy” which is fully hand-painted and of very high quality.
Clarice Cliff high Art Deco style but not original Clarice Cliff brand.
History:
Art Deco face or wall masks were produced by many manufacturers during the 1920s and 1930's in England and Europe. Principal among these were the Clarice Cliff factory in England and the Royal Dux factory in Europe.
These masks have always been popular with collectors and original high Art Deco models still command very high prices. Exceptional prices are achieved for rare or unusual pieces.
A rare Royal Dux wall mask in mint condition and still in its original tissue lined plain cardboard box (
indistinguishable
from the wall mask offered here) and designed before its time and well before the later Art Deco period, by Alois Hampel in 1907, fetched north of £3000 in a London auction room a few years ago.
Value Check:
Type "royal dux screamer facemask" into google and all will be revealed!
Dimensions:
Height approximately 17cm or 7 inches. Maximum width 14cm. Maximum thickness 5cm.
Brand Markings:
Original retailer's paper label intact - no other markings of any kind.
Authenticity:
While this mask was made post 1930, it will still certainly pass even expert examination as an antique Art Deco original because of the way in which it has been made, save for the fact that it carries no indelible back stamp - only its original retailer's paper label.
Shipping:
Anywhere outside Australia is USD$40 (Rate is high because courier companies charge very high fees in Australia due to our remote proximity combined with long transit times (14 - 21 days to UK or USA).
Note:
Largely as a concession to overseas buyers, another 2 Studio Gotham pieces will be included in the winning bidder's package thus effectively reducing overseas shipping costs to zero.
They are a pair of 'Tall Trees' salt shakers ( pictures displayed above) around 4 inches high also in mint condition.
'Tall Trees'
is one of the Pottery's most popular designs. Use them as a pair of salt and pepper shakers if you don't want them for cabinet display or re-sell them on eBay in your home country (with cheap postage) for a tidy profit!
The tip and the orange base ring are hand painted and their original 1998 retail prices in the London Galleries and Design Shops was £65 each (plus vat).
Clarice Cliff Gotham Collectors Note:
Your opportunity to buy this sought after, out-of-issue face mask at a fraction of its original 1998 London Gallery retail price!
Packing:
Don't worry - these 3 pieces will be perfectly wrapped and packed so they arrive at your place in fine condition.
Sorry - no offers accepted prior to conclusion - top bidder gets it even if it only achieves a single opening bid!
…………………………………………………………………………………………….....................................
TESTIMONIALS:
(By way of recent feedbacks for the same or similar products)
With a policy of low start, no reserve auctions and with most listings including attractive high quality,
high value
bonus inclusions, it’s no real surprise that many winning bidders have been very favourably impressed with their purchases.
With comments like these , (period 3
rd
to 14
th
August 2021) you can have
every confidence
in bid
